Mullite-Si-Al2O3oxidation protective coating was prepared on the surface of SiC coated carbon-carbon composites by in-situ formation method. Microstructure and composition of the prepared SiC/mullite-Si-Al2O3coating were studied by means of XRD and SEM. Oxidation resistance of the coating was tested. The results show that the outer coating consists mainly of the mullite, Si and Al2O3, and it is dense without crack. Weight loss of SiC/mullite-Si-Al2O3is only 4.6% after oxidized for 75 h in static air at 1500°C. Oxidation resistance of the SiC/mullite-Si-Al2O3coating is obviously superior to that of single SiC coating.
