Use of austenitic stainless steel and aluminum alloys with the knowledge of material parameters. The High Speed Cutting increases the requirements of separating safeguards of machine tools and requires the substitution of alloyed and non-alloyed steels. The Institute for machine Tools and Factory Management (IWF) of the TU Berlin and the Department of Ferrous Metallurgy (IEHK) of the RWTH Aachen test in a joint research project the applicability of austenitic stainless steel and aluminum alloys to reach this aim. The austenitic stainless steel has been tested trough impact tests and material engineering test, the aluminum alloys actually only through impact tests. The result is that both all tested materials are applicable for separating safeguards of machine tools. Generally the knowledge of the chemical composition and the stability of the material are essential before the use of austenitic stainless steel. © Carl Hanser Verlag, München.
