The development of silicon for the new (DVB-Handheld) DVB-H that allows TV to be broadcast to mobile terminals by several chipmakers is discussed. DiBcom, a Paris based chip design firm has demonstrated a laptop Personal Computer (PC) using its DIB3000MC 2K/8K COFDM demodulator chip and a SmartMPEG chip in which the chip supports 16QAM modulation. Imagination Technologies is using its Universal Communication Coprocessor core for the use for DAB chips and Digital Multimedia Broadcast (DMB) terminals. The DVB-H design also includes the link layer and the demodulator for DVB-H.
