SEG has a longstanding commitment to inspiring the geophysicists of tomorrow through SEG Foundation-funded programs designed to prepare today’s geophysics students to be members of tomorrow’s professional workforce. SEG Student Chapters are often the first places students become engaged with the Society. Funding for Student Chapters helps support training for faculty advisors at SEG’s Annual Meeting, provides incentives for chapters to improve themselves, and offers their members opportunities to gain valuable connections with professionals in industry and academia. Officers from SEG’s Student Chapters are encouraged to apply for the SEG/Chevron Student Leadership Symposium (SLS) held each year in conjunction with the SEG Annual Meeting. Other students participate annually in the SEG/ExxonMobil Student Education Program (SEP), held in conjunction with the SEG Annual Meeting. Funding from corporate sponsors helps ensure that SEG continues to encourage students to consider the wide variety of options available for careers in geophysics. SEG is committed to engaging the future leadership of the Society at the entry point of their careers, providing them with essential training for building a successful career, and contributing to the science of applied geophysics.
