This paper presents a new 3-D profilemeterfor blastfurnaces, named 3D TopScan, which scans the complete burden surface. The probe operates continuously (2417), and the measured surface is updated every 20 seconds. The measurements identify irregularities and unsymmetries. In addition, burden descent speed profiles and three-dimensional layer models are generated. The 3D TopScan is mounted statically on the top cone and enables maintenance during BF operation.
