A systematic method to construct the RES (radiative energy signal) was proposed based on flame monitoring system and image processing techniques. The value of RES was directly calculated from the image gray scale and then dynamically modified by the load. In this method, the RES has high accuracy and it can calibrate the signal of monitoring system covered by slag and/or soot deposit. Its value and power units have the same scale range, and decrease the difference between the RES and the measured power output is the foundation of combustion adjusting. A verification experiment was carried out in subcritical coal-fired boiler. The results show that RES constructed by this method is more rapid and accurate than the heat value signal. On this basis, the application potential of RES to improve the boiler-turbine control systems was also discussed. © 2016, Editorial Board of Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
