摘要
Conventional methods for the disposal for mine tailings and waste rock result in two separate waste streams. Fine-grained tailings are discharged from a pipeline as slurry to a tailings impoundment. Tailings impoundments often occupy large areas of land. The design of tailings impoundments, which must maintain physical stability in perpetuity, is controlled by the low shear strength characteristics of the tailings material.
