Consumption, operating rates, shipments, and prices of US newsprint and ink is discussed. Prices fell 28% to $450 by July in the year 2002, due to weakest US advertising environment. US daily newspapers newsprint consumption fell by 11% as a result of a 4% decline in advertising spending. In 2002-03, analysts expect US newsprint demand to grow nearly 5% to 10.8 million tons.
