The mechanical measurement of internal stress is a basic method for characterization of thin electrodeposited metal layers. The two devices used for this purpose - Internal Stress-Meter and MSM 200 - are contrasted and compared in terms of layer thickness distribution and measured internal stresses in nickel layers of chosen electrolytes. These studies are the starting point for researches regarding the effect of the type of nickel electrolytes, additives, wetting agents and of zinc or other electrolytes.
