摘要
The tolerance of polarization mode dispersion(PMD) of high speed communication system under different bit rates is calculated. Theoretic analysis and experimental measurement are carried out on PMD of chirped fiber Bragg grating (CFBG) fabricated in B/Ge and hydrogen-loaded photo-sensitive fibers respectively. The results show that under the same conditions, the PMD of these two kinds of CFBGs are nearly 10 ps and less than 1 ps, respectively. In a 10 Gb/s 1500 km transmission system with 10-12 bit error ratio (BER), these two kinds of CFBGs are used for dispersion compensation, without PMD compensation, the power penalty of the system are 6.36 dB and 1.42 dB. After the PMD are compensated by using polarization maintaining fiber, the power penalty of the system are improved to be 1.32 dB and 1.36 dB.
