The method of ALE arithmetic of LS-DYNA was used to simulate the initiation process of shelled explosive by projectiles. The threshold velocities were got by using projectiles with different material, different ratio of length to diameter, and different shell thickness. The simulation results show that the ratio of length to diameter of projectiles with same mass will influence the initiation threshold velocity. The diameter of projectile must be considered mostly when projectile is used to initiate shelled charge. The projectile material density also influences initiation threshold velocity obviously, and the material with high density and high capability must be chosen for projectiles to reduce the threshold velocity of shelled charge.
