Synthesis of AlN nanocrystalline powders

A precursor containing a homogenous mixture of amorphous Al 2O3 and carbon was prepared with aluminum isopropoxide, sucrose and urea as raw materials, by sol-gel process. AlN nanocrystalline powder has been synthesized through carbothermal nitridation reduction from the precursor. The resultant products were characterized by XRD and BET. The results indicated that the product had a high purity with steady performance. The effects of Al:C molar ratio, urea additive, reaction temperature and reaction time on the synthesis of AlN were investigated.
