In a mathematical model of the thermal process in the electrofusion welding of gas-line polyethylene pipes, it is proposed that phase transition in a range of temperatures be taken into account. By comparing theoretical time dependences of temperature with experimental dependences, the effectiveness of this approach to determining the temperature field dynamics in the welded joint is shown. © 2014 Smithers Information Ltd.
