摘要：

The world plastics production and consumption increased at a less rate than before and than it was forecast. The most considerable development was observed in the countries of the Far East. The prospects for 2004 are better. In long term, the demand for plastics in the world is expected to grow by about 4 or 5% per year. The plastics industry of Europe is described in the second part.
