National strategies to re-vitalizing manufacturing industry from United States, United Kingdom and Germany were studied, and intelligent manufacturing would be their main trend. China manufacturing industry was big but not strong. China manufacturing values added were in the first position of the world, the weakness in innovation ability and lack of key competitive technologies were pointed. Therefore, China national strategy for strong manufacturing industry focusesd on "five important projects", and intelligent manufacturing would be the first priority. In addition, digital design and manufacturing was the critical and fundamental technology for intelligent manufacturing, while modeling and simulation would be the scientific base. It should be stressed that China are on the way to build strong manufacturing industry as well as intelligent manufacturing. © 2020, China Mechanical Engineering Magazine Office. All right reserved.
