Predicted hydrodynamic quantities such as hydrodynamic coefficients, wave exciting forces and ship motions are carried out for three typical hulls (a Wigley III hull, a Series 60 hull and a Deep-V hull) travelling in regular waves by using direct potential formulation which employs two different Green's function, three-dimentional pulsating source (3DP) and three-dimentional translating-pulsating sourece (3DTP). Numerical results are also compared with experimental data. This extensive comparison illustrates that the numerical results investigated by the 3DTP provide good qualitative agreement with the available experimental data and more accurate than that of the 3DP. This provides further confidence that the 3DTP is suitable for analyzing the motions and loads experienced by a vessel traveling with forward speed in waves.
