The packed bed storage system is a kind of important thermal energy storage method. Filler material properties and boundary conditions have important influence on the heat transfer performance. In this paper, a single tank thermocline thermal storage system was studied by numerical analysis using the local non-thermal equilibrium governing equations. The heat transfer temperature difference study between the molten salt and filler material was emphasized during the charging process. The change laws of heat transfer temperature difference affected by charging time, filler material density, thermal conductivity and molten salt velocity were obtained, providing a basis for further analysis of heat transfer performance variation with time and space. © 2015, Science Press.
