The characteristics of a conventional sintered metal filter (SIKA-R IS) from GKN Sintered Metal filters were compared with those of the newly developed SIKA-R AS asymmetrically designed metallic membrane. The filters were compared with respect to pressure drop, pore size and particle retention. The performance of each filter was assessed by comparing residual pressure drop after regeneration, filtration cycle time, clean gas dust concentration and total collection efficiency The superior performance of the asymmetric metallic membrane is discussed.; The operational benefits of a sintered metal membrane filter with an asymmetric wall configuration (SIKA-RAS) are reviewed and compared with standard sintered metal filter cartridge. The asymmetric metallic membrane shows a better performance in regeneration, residual pressure drop and contaminate concentration in the cleaned gas than the conventional sintered metal filter cartridge. To date is has been successfully used in the recovery of catalyst particles, an important step in many chemical processes. In the past, conventional filters had to be cleaned in an external process every four weeks because of clogging. Following the installation of SIKA-RAS, the process can now operate for up to 6-8 months before making an external cleaning.
