So far, data view and simple relay device management can be done only in the protection relay information management system. Further application analysis function needs the support of a relay model. The status quo of protection relay information modelling is summarized. The modelling demand for application functions is studied. The modelling manner of primary equipment, secondary equipment and their incidence relation is analyzed. Finally a way to expand the common information model (CIM) model of master station and a kind of process for source end model maintenance are put forward. The scheme provided in the paper for relay information modelling and source end model maintenance can make up the defect of inadequate secondary equipment functions in CIM, avoid inconsistency, simplify engineering configuration and debugging as well, while supporting abundant application functions at the master station. © 2016 Automation of Electric Power Systems Press.
