摘要
Inorganic additives and inhibitors are selected for modifying organic coatings to provide corrosion resistance. Barrier coatings contain lamellar particles that are aligned parallel with the surface to be protected. With barrier coatings, the efficacy of the corrosion resistance provided by the additive depends on many parameters such as particle morphology, shape, size, size distribution, and orientation in the coating and its solubility. Micaceous iron oxide (MIO) additives are commonly added to organic coatings to protect ferrous substrates, and in particular structural steels.
