Article presents selected mechanical properties of coarse-grained sandstones taken from core sample issued from roof of mine opening in seam 385 exploited in Bogdanka Coal Mine. Based on strength-stress curves course, mechanisms of deformation and brittle fracture in uniaxial compression have been examined taking into consideration postfailure behaviour of specimens. Results have been compared with tensile strength and water content, and presented in tables and graphically.
