The original structure optimization of optical multilayer is important for the whole design of the optical thin films. To the design with a few materials, a new method is given. Because the design of the original structure of optical multilayer can be looked as a optimization problem about the combination of the parameters of the thin films, the GA (Genetic Algorithm) can be used to get the beast solution. The theory of the GA is explained, a serial design examples are given. The results indicate that the way presented above is simple, effective and general for the original structure.
