Design optimization of output window for high power ka-band gyro-traveling wave tube and its power capacity

The characteristics of the output window of the high power Ka-band gyro-traveling wave tube (TWT) was empirically approximated, mathematically modeled, theoretically analyzed in terms of the scattering matrix formulated in field-matching theory, and numerically simulated and tested with software HFSS for the design optimization of its structure. The impact of the high frequency and operation modes of TE01 and TE11 on the output power capacity of the newly-designed double-disk sapphire output window, with relative band width of over 11%, was investigated in simulation via a combination of software ANSYS and HFSS. The simulated results show that when it comes to the critical dissipation power capacity through the novel double-disk sapphire output window, the TE01 mode outperforms the TE11 mode with a higher output power of over 8 kW. ©, 2015, Science Press.
