Fracture toughness tests using small specimens including 1/2TCT specimen and precracked Charpy V-notch (PCVN) specimen were performed in the transition temperature region in accordance with the test method for determining the Reference Temperature, T0 (ASTM E 1921-97). Materials used are two base metals and one weld metal for reactor pressure vessel. Master curves as a function of temperature and T0 were derived. Values of T0 were compared with those obtained from 1TCT and 4TCT specimens along with fracture data obtained from full thickness CT specimens. It turned out that a useful master curve can be determined from 1/2TCT specimens. In addition, reference temperature, T0, was derived by the alternative multi temperature method, and compared with that determined using at least six specimens at a single temperature. T0 derived by the multi temperature method seems to be slightly lower than that obtained by the ASTM E 1921-97.
