The work presents comparative analysis of several modern technologies for carbon nanotube (CNT) synthesis. The most cost-effective and industrially promising catalytic vapor deposition (CVD) method, i.e., generation of CNTs from vapors by passing carbon-containing raw material in the form of vapor over the heated catalyst, is discussed. Some drawbacks of the method are pointed, including its periodicity (lack of possibility for continuous technology) and inefficient consumption of carbon-containing raw material and related inert gases. A modified CVD method is proposed, allowing its much higher efficiency and greater output capacity by using a continuous technological process. © 2014 by Begell House, Inc.
