Profibus (Process Field Bus) is now a standard for fieldbus communication. The Profibus is used in many areas of process automation and contributes to the economic success of companies. Does Profibus now also need to be considered when determining service and maintenance intervals? Does it make any sense to maintain electronic components, or can these be ignored? Is it worth risking the entire system coming to a standstill because of a potential saving made on maintenance? A maintenance strategy that includes the Profibus would be a more intelligent and more economical solution. This article describes the key aspects of such a strategy.
