With the development of tantalum metal preparation technology, porous tantalum implants have been more widely used in biomedical fields, such as orthopedics. Porous tantalum is a biomedical material with internal pore connectivity that provides an excellent matrix for inward growth, vascularization, and new bone formation of cells and tissues. The use of additive manufacturing technology can precisely customize the macroscopic shape and internal pore characteristics of porous tantalum to meet the development needs of precision medicine. This article reviews the relevant progress of biomedical additive manufacturing porous tantalum in raw materials, preparation technology, mechanical behavior in vivo and in vitro evaluation and clinical application, and puts forward the future development direction of additive manufacturing porous tantalum based on the current technical trends. © 2024 Central South University of Technology.
