Calculation Method for Basic Quality Index of Tunnel Surrounding Rock Based on Penetration Velocity of Drill Jumbo

In order to ensure the accuracy of rock mass identification in tunnel construction, a calculation method for the basic quality index (BQ) of tunnel surrounding rock based on the penetration velocity (Vp) was proposed for the impact-rotation coupling rock-breaking drill, including the BQ fitting calculation formula based on the penetration velocity and the penetration velocity classification mode. Firstly, the rock-breaking mechanism of impact_rotary rock drill was analyzed in light of energy; and the relational calculation formula of rock-breaking function of the rock drill expressed by drilling parameters and BQ values was derived. Secondly, 92 groups of samples were obtained based on the tunnel projects of the Hubei section of Zhengzhou-Wanzhou High_speed Railway. Through field and laboratory tests, penetration velocities of the samples and the data of rock strength and rock mass integrity that can be used to calculate the BQ value were collected. Finally, the relationship between the penetration velocity and the BQ value was established through the mathematical statistics method; and on this basis, the classification mode of penetration velocity was proposed. The results show that there is a good response relationship between the penetration velocity and the BQ value. When the drilling pressure is constant, the BQ value of surrounding rock can be directly expressed by the penetration velocity. The BQ value calculation method based on the penetration velocity includes the median fitting calculation formula and the upper and lower limit value calculation formulas that can cover 95% of the data. The classification mode and the selection principle of penetration velocity can be directly used for the rapid determination of the grades of surrounding rock on-site. © 2023 Chinese Academy of Railway Sciences.
