摘要
The aim is to compare the difference of rare earth elements (REEs) content in serum between breast cancer patients and controls, and to explore the correlation between different differentiation types and REEs content in serum in patients with malignant tumors, so as to provide scientific basis for the treatment and prognosis of breast cancer. A case-control study was conducted in 90 patients with breast tumors (45 benign and 45 malignant) and 95 controls. Malignant tumors were further refined into 28 highly differentiated and 15 poorly differentiated groups. The contents of 15 REEs in serum of the two groups were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Results showed that the concentrations of La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Y, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er and Tm had significant differences between the case group and the control group (P<0.05). Among them, the contents of La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm and Y were above the quantitative limit of the instrument, and the concentration in the case group was lower than that in the control group. Logistic regression showed that the OR value of La, Ce and Y had statistical significance after adjusting demographic characteristics (P<0.05); The serum concentrations of La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm and Y had significant difference among the control group, benign tumor group and high or low differentiation group of malignant tumors (P<0.05). The correlation analysis showed that Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm and Y were negatively correlated with histological score of breast cancer (P<0.05). Both benign and malignant breast tumors can lead to the decrease of RREs in serum. La, Ce and Y may be protective factors for breast cancer patients. The deterioration of breast cancer is related to the disorder of rare earth element metabolism in vivo. © 2020, Editorial Office of Journal of the Chinese Society of Rare Earths. All right reserved.
