A computational method was proposed to solve the difficulty of calculating the time-varying meshing stiffness of cylindrical gear with variable hyperbolic circular-arc-tooth-trace (VH-CATT) under load,which calculates the single-tooth mesh stiffness by introducing the mesh stiffness of tooth surface mesh nodes. The contact patterns,normal contact forces,integrated elastic deformation,and nodal meshing stiffness of VH-CATT cylindrical gears were investigated. The time-varying meshing stiffness of VH-CATT cylindrical gears was calculated considering the integrating effects of load share between teeth and actual contact ratio. The results show that the time-varying meshing stiffness and transmission error of VH-CATT cylindrical gears are periodically changing,and the load and tooth trace radius have a great influence on the time-varying meshing stiffness and transmission error.When the load increases,the time-varying meshing stiffness and transmission error increase;however,the tooth trace radius increases,the time-varying meshing stiffness increase and the transmission error decrease. © 2023 Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
