摘要
In 2018, American Library Association identified sustainability as a major national trend and sustainability was added into the list of the core values of librarianship. The core values are the foundations of modern librarianship. Based on this value, libraries play an important and unique role in promoting community awareness about resilience, climate change and a sustainable future. They are also leading by example by taking steps to reduce their environmental footprint. The goal of this study is to understand librarians' perceptions of their roles and responsibilities in providing environmental literacy services in their communities, and to identify their current practices in providing educational literacy services, and the perceived challenges in doing so in the states of California, Florida, and Georgia. The findings will uncover the current environmental literacy services in libraries, librarian's perceptions of libraries' roles and responsibility for building sustainable and resilient communities in terms of climate change. It will also contribute to the discussions on grassroots community-based activities on social changes amid the discussion of climate change. 83rd Annual Meeting of the Association for Information Science & Technology October 25-29, 2020.
