The recent acomplished syntheses of novel metal oxopolyazides VO(N 3 ) 3 , NbO(N 3 ) 3 , NbO(N 3 ) 3 ·2CH 3 CN, MoO(N 3 ) 3 , MoO(N 3 ) 3 ·2CH 3 CN, WO(N 3 ) 4 , WO(N 3 ) 4 ·CH 3 CN, MoO 2 (N 3 ) 2 , MoO 2 (N 3 ) 2 ·2CH 3 CN, WO 2 (N 3 ) 2 , WO 2 (N 3 ) 2 ·2CH 3 CN and UO 2 (N 3 ) 2 ·CH 3 CN by the author is reviewed. The conversion of the compounds into 2,2′-bipyridine donor adducts and oxaazido metallates is discribed. The properties and X-ray crystal structures of the metal oxopolyazides are compared and discussed. © The Royal Society of Chemistry.
