摘要
In this study, it was tried to identify the effect of radiation on the temperature scanning stress relaxation properties of lignin reinforced NBR elastomers. In order to determine the effect of ionizing radiation, the elastomers were irradiated with gamma rays up to 80 kGy in air atmosphere and at room temperature. Stress relaxation properties of the irradiated samples were investigated by using Temperature Scanning Stress Relaxation (TSSR) technique. For un-irradiated samples, lignin incorporation decreased stress relation of elastomer. It was attributed to decreased isothermal chain relaxation due to further crosslinks formed during sulfur vulcanization in the presence of lignin (up to 1 phr). Irradiation was evaluated as one of the important factors which controls non-isothermal relaxation and service temperature of NBR and NBR/lignin compounds. Due to increasing crosslink density during irradiation, T90 service temperature of NBR elastomer could be improved to approximately 52 °C at the end of 80 kGy irradiation. On the other hand, 1 phr lignin incorporation almost suppresses this improvement. In conclusion, gamma irradiation increases the cross-link density of NBR elastomer and small amount of lignin incorporation is found to be a simple and effective solution for the prevention of undesired further cross-linking during irradiation. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd
