Restoration control after large-scale blackouts is an important part of power system security defense. In the context of low-carbon energy transition, China’s power grid is gradually entering a new state with high proportion of renewable energy, AC-DC hybrid connection and highly power electronification, its operation and control complexity has been increased significantly. There still exists risk of blackouts due to various internal and external factors, so black-start restoration research needs to be given sufficient attention. This paper reviews the research work of black-start restoration. Firstly, the basic concept and process of black-start restoration is introduced, then the system restoration strategy and modeling ideas are analyzed from a spatio-temporal perspective. On this basis, the research work on restoration scheme development is reviewed and the restoration decision-making features of new-type power systems are discussed, then the related protection and control problems during restoration process are summarized, and finally, the further work is suggested for restoration of the new-type power systems. © 2022 Chinese Machine Press.
