To isolate the vibration for sensitive instruments, a mini vibration isolator with fluid damping was presented. A metal diaphragm was used as an elastic element and the viscous fluid was used to dissipate vibration energy. The analytical expression for the deflection of the metal diaphragm was derived. Then a dynamic model of the vibration isolator was established, and the dynamic stiffness expression of a two-parameter model with stiffness-damping in parallel was also obtained. By analyzing the vibration transmission characteristics, a method for designing the stiffness and damping coefficients according to the vibration isolation performance requirement was proposed. The experimental and theoretical results agree well in terms of acceleration transmission rate, and the result shows that the resonance peak can be suppressed below 6 dB. © 2021, Editorial Office of Journal of Vibration and Shock.
