Aiming at the performance analysis of a serial Bernoulli production line model with double-rework line, a line-changing policy was proposed to improve the overall system production efficiency while keeping a minimum total cost. Meanwhile, the bottleneck workstation was identified with the overlapping decomposition method within the aggregation framework. The validity of the algorithm was verified by simulations. To compare the line-changing policy with the bottleneck improvement approach, an economic analysis was performed with multiple controllable variables, which shed lights on the efficient management of factory floor. In addition, a byproduct was obtained with respect to the production system deadlock phenomenon, which was heavily dependent on the parameter tuning of the production system. Through analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of these two strategies, some scientific decision-making for factory were provided. Deadlock production phenomenon and the parameters to impact deadlock rate were also found. © 2019, Editorial Department of CIMS. All right reserved.
