摘要
Ductile cast iron is widely used in various industrial fields due to its excellent mechanical properties. Morphology and distribution of graphite in it can affect its mechanical properties. Compared with the spheroidization rate of graphite, study on the characterization of graphite size is relatively less. It is of great engineering significance to perform nondestructive evaluation for graphite size and surface hardness of ductile cast iron. Here, ductile cast iron samples with different graphite sizes and matrix structures were poured, metallographic observations and hardness tests were done. Based on longitudinal critical refraction wave (LCR wave) and Rayleigh wave models, graphite size and surface hardness of ductile cast iron were characterized with acoustic wave velocity and nonlinear ultrasonic parameter. The results showed that the nonlinear ultrasonic parameter of LCR wave increases with increase in surface hardness and decreases with increase in average diameter of graphite, the nonlinear ultrasonic parameter of LCR wave has higher sensitivity than its acoustic wave velocity does; increase in nonlinear ultrasonic parameter of LCR wave is related to increase in number of grain boundaries and carbides in microstructure; the nonlinear ultrasonic parameter of LCR wave can be used to characterize graphite size and surface hardness of ductile cast iron, and establish relations among microstructure, nonlinear ultrasonic parameter and mechanical properties. © 2023 Chinese Vibration Engineering Society.
