The ultimate bearing capacity of platform under combined loads with shear force and torque combined in different proportions was calculated by nonlinear finite element method.Wave loads were predicted based on design wave method, and then the effect of combined loads on ultimate bearing capacity was studied.Shear index and torsion index of the structure were calculated.The relation of ultimate strength including single load and combined loads was obtained by using implicit function fitting.Based on the existing rules, a method for evaluating the ultimate strength of semi-submersible platforms under combined loads was proposed.Research results show that the simultaneous action of shear and torsion loads can weaken the ultimate strength under a single load, and the proposed method can assess the ultimate strength of semi-submersible platform reasonably. © 2019, Editorial Board of Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
