摘要
The phosphorylation of the transmembrane protein nephrin has been shown to play an important role in signaling in kidney podocytes, and it has now been shown to also play a key role in regulating pancreatic beta-cell function. Williamson et al have recently shown that the loss of nephrin tyrosine phosphorylation on its 3 cytoplasmic YDxV motifs can enhance insulin release in aged female mice. These studies suggest that blocking nephrin phosphorylation may be an effective treatment option for improving beta-cell function.
