Transformation of the Right to Decide: Analysis ofthe Decriminalization ofAbortion in Colombia and Women's Rights

This article studies the decriminalization of the crime of abortion in the Colombian Criminal Code from a human rights approach; this analysis results in abortion being classified as a fundamental right of women. In terms of research methods, a qualitative approach is used based on content analysis of primary and secondary sources, collecting and critically examining legal regulations, court rulings, and relevant academic literature to substantiate its argument in favor of decriminalizing abortion. This method focuses on the construction of a theoretical-legal framework that places the debate on abortion in the context of women's rights. The question that we intend to answer is: What is the impact of constitutional and international law on the protection of women's rights concerning abortion in Colombia?
