In recent years, nickel-based composite coatings have been widely used in aerospace, petrochemical, energy industry, and other fields due to their excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and thermal stability. As a surface strengthening technology, laser cladding has the advantages of low dilution rate and heat-affected zone, and has obvious advantages in the preparation of nickel-based composite coatings. In this paper, the research progress of Ni-based composite coatings prepared by laser cladding is reviewed. Firstly, the characteristics and properties of the new material system of nickel-based composite coating are summarized. Secondly, the factors affecting the properties of nickel-based composite coatings were analyzed. The influence mechanism of cladding powder and process parameters on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and mechanical properties of the coatings was discussed in detail, and the measures to improve the properties of nickel-based composite coatings were proposed. Finally, the problems faced by the preparation of nickel-based composite coatings by laser cladding are introduced, and the future development trend is prospected. This paper will help to quickly understand the development status of this field and provide reference for solving practical production problems.
