Different discussions about the practice of linguistic/semiotic analysis (PAL/S) have risen strongly in the last 20 years in Brazil, either as a reactionresponse to the centripetal return of grammar teaching, or as a counterword to current educational political documents aimed at to Basic Education. In any case, research in Applied Linguistics on PAL/S has been growing in the Brazilian context. In this panorama, our objective in this article is to propose questions about PAL/S and from them to glimpse reflections on this language practice in the context of the Portuguese Language (LP) class at the Basic Education school. To this end, we rely on previous Applied Linguistics research on the topic, in addition to, at times, revisiting current political-educational documents. From this, our article is characterized methodologically as a reflection in the space between theoretical-methodological and didactic-pedagogical aspects about PAL/S in LP classes in the school sphere. In the end, we emphasize that, among other issues to be mobilized, our article ratifies the ideological-valuative clash between tradition and change in PL teaching in the country.
