Enhanced dynamic compressive performance of silicon carbide whiskers-modified mortars

摘要
Silicon carbide whiskers (SiCw) exhibit superior physical and chemical properties, but their impact on the dynamic performance of mortar is unknown. In this study, SiCw-modified mortars with 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 wt% (of cement) SiCw were prepared, and their quasistatic mechanical properties and dynamic compressive resistance were investigated. Additionally, the impact compression tests were performed by utilizing Phi 74 mm split Hopkinson pressure bars. The results demonstrated that adding an appropriate content of SiCw enhanced the quasistatic and dynamic compressive strength while reducing the strain rate sensitivity of SiCw-modified mortars. Meanwhile, mortar with 0.2 wt% SiCw exhibited the maximum dynamic compressive strength and dynamic ultimate toughness. Overall, this study provided a theoretical basis for applying SiCw in improving dynamic compressive performance of mortar.
