摘要
Purpose of reviewThe goal of this review article is to examine the role of cultural humility in the care of patients with kidney disease.Recent findingsThe initial focus within medical communities was to use cultural competency but there has been a shift towards cultural humility due to some noted difficulties with the idea of cultural competency.SummaryCultural humility is a lifelong process that encourages self-reflection and critique, understanding of how your culture as a medical provider affects the way you approach patient care and encouraged a patient centered approach. This approach works well within kidney disease care due to the multicultural nature of our patient population. We can use cultural humility in the training of our medical professionals and with our approach to clinical research to improve care for patients with kidney disease.
