摘要
The modern hemostasis laboratory has at its disposal modern equipment capable of high throughput and wide test selection. However, although the same hemostasis tests performed in specialized laboratories are also technically feasible in routine coagulation laboratories; this does not mean that all routine laboratories should be enabled to perform all such hemostasis tests. Most hemostasis tests performed in specialized hemostasis laboratories are batched to increase cost effectiveness, which in the end translates to the most cost-effective service for the authors' health care partners - mostly public funded hospitals. It is unlikely these hospitals would be happy to fund the cost of services when these are performed in an inefficient manner. The difference in costs can be huge and would need to include not only the direct costs of the instruments, test reagents, and control material, but also the indirect costs of training, maintaining competencies, EQA, and maintaining accreditation.
