The Centro Asistencial de la Asociacion Medica del Este de Colonia (CAMEC), third level hospital in Uruguay, includes clinical engineering by starting a biomedical engineering semestral internship program. The 851 strong inventory was augmented with variables that allow easy management such as probable future discarding date, preventive and corrective management tasks as well as the link to the complete record of each biomedical equipment. In the ten outpatient facilities, in the Colonia del Sacramento hospital and in the third level hospital in Rosario, 41% of the equipment are 10 years old or more. The adoption of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) by Limble allows efficient documentation of maintenance actions in all locations of the institution. The interdisciplinary interaction of engineering and medical staff was strengthened by the full-time student intern.
