摘要
Currently, with the increase in longevity, a discussion on the quality of life and mental health of the elderly is important, and more than that, it sheds light on understanding the resolutions that society reveals to the topic of longevity, such as the creation of long-term care homes, and thus begins the category of institutionalized elderly. Objective: to understand how the scientific literature highlights the mental health of institutionalized elderly people. Method: Integrative literature review in the Scielo, EBSCO, and PubMed information resources from 2019 to 2023. The descriptors used were "Elderly"; "Mental Health"; "Psychological Wellbeing"; "Personal Satisfaction"; "Health of the Institutionalized Elderly", with the Boolean operator "AND". Summarizing 13 articles for discussion, the choice for this type of review is justified as it is the research method that relies on Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). Results: the analysis of the articles highlighted the direct relationship between the mental health of institutionalized elderly people and their social involvement, and also noted the pertinence of psychological assessment and intervention in institutions supporting the elderly. Signs of depression negatively affect the quality of life of the elderly, and the care team is an important social support resource. Therefore, the indicator of social involvement is pointed out as one of the factors that maintain quality of life. It is understood that long-term care homes need to be an integrated part of society and families as a mental health resource.
