摘要
The present work presents CFD-DEM results for filter cake formation under dynamic filtration in a highly permeable heterogeneous porous medium conceived as a staggered array of cylinders. The main objective is to evaluate how the compacted bed reduces the flow rate through the medium by varying the Reynolds number, diameter, and specific mass of the particles. CFD-DEM modeling captures relevant phenomena such as solid transport by viscous fluid, packing, and pressure drop imposed by particles. Results indicate that the initial instants of filtering are fundamental to bridge pore throats and build the cake. Higher Reynolds numbers, lighter particles, and smaller particles were more effective as long as the bridge formed by obstruction.
