摘要
In this note, design of a breath analyzer is demonstrated by using a double defect layered 1D quaternary photonic band gap (PBG) structure. This breath analyzer can be used to detect alcohol content in human breath. The breath sample to be tested is passed through the air grooves (defect layers) in the 1D quaternary PBG structure and the light spectrum is observed on the output side. The breath sample without alcohol content will generate a reference light spectrum, while, the breath sample with alcohol content will generate a light spectrum different from the reference light spectrum. Thus, alcohol content in the human blood can be detected by passing the breath sample through air grooves in the double defect layered 1D quaternary PBG structure and comparing output spectrum with reference light spectrum. If required, this double defect layered 1D quaternary PBG nano-layered structure breath analyzer can also be used for early detection of diseases through exhaled human breath analysis.
