摘要
Purpose The aim was to investigate the efficacy of visual training with stimulation in patients with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Method The Medical Eye Trainer (M.E.T.) from SmartMedo GmbH, Austria, was tested in 67 patients with dry AMD. By using the training system the entire visual system is treated. A moving grid is displayed on a standard smartphone or tablet. The training was carried out once a day for 90 s over a total period of 2 months. Results The M.E.T. significantly improved visual function after 2 months. The results of a questionnaire, which was used after the therapy, also showed a satisfactory stabilization or improvement of the findings. Conclusion The M.E.T. represents an effective additional treatment option for patients with dry AMD without interfering with established treatment methods.
